Base layers are crucial protection in arc flash and flash fire environments because they act as a vital safety net that prevents severe, life-threatening burn injuries if the outer flame resistant garment fails or is breached. While outer PPE protects against the initial bast or flash, FR/AR base layers provide essential 'second-layer' thermal protection, moisture management and a non-melting barrier that protects from intense heat and pressure.
